Autonomous Shuttles Come to Downtown Las Vegas
Look out, Las Vegas – autonomous shuttles are here! Starting Wednesday, Nov 8th, 2017, these driverless, electric buses will be making a ½ mile loop around downtown Las Vegas between Las Vegas Blvd and 8th St. With three stops along Fremont and Carson, you’ll be able to jump and and off this new public transit system.
AAA, Keolis, RTC, the city of Las Vegas, and a developer Navya have worked together to bring these 8-seat vehicles to downtown Vegas. It’s purportedly the largest driverless venture, and aims to provide 25,000 locals, as well as tourists, with experience using autonomous vehicle technology.
While there are no steering wheels or brakes, the vehicles use a combination of wireless sensors, cameras, light-detecting sensors, and GPS to navigate traffic signals and other drivers.
But the best part, aside from the wicked cool new tech? It’s free to use! Hop and and off as much as you want in Downtown Las Vegas, and take pride in knowing that AAA will donate $1 per rider to those affected affected by the October 1st, 2017 mass shooting at Mandalay Bay.
